“History is a nightmare from which I am trying to awake.”

Dead Weight is about the loss of innocence, the death of childhood and the nature of the sometimes difficult relationship between a father and son. Set during the BSE ‘mad cow disease’ crisis and a particularly dark period of ‘The Troubles’ in Northern Ireland, a young family move from the UK to rural Donegal and try to settle in to the sometimes insular and unwelcoming community. A father, who won’t acknowledge his worsening depression, and a sensitive, son try to understand each other.
